If you're a bread enthusiast, you know that there's something special about homemade sourdough bread. The process of making this bread involves a natural fermentation process that creates a tangy flavor and a rustic texture that is hard to replicate with store-bought bread. But there are even more benefits to making sourdough bread at home.

Starting your own sourdough starter may seem like a daunting task, especially when you can easily purchase a premade starter at the store. However, there are several compelling reasons why making your own sourdough starter is worth it! But to be quite honest, it is more about patience and time, rather than effort, or hard work.

For certain non-cooking applications such as whipped cream,

or no- bake treats, this is a wonderful option for those who are avoiding any form of alcohol.

For those wanting an alcohol free vanilla extract, here’s a two ingredient version, and two different ways to make it. Both are simple!

Why make extract when you can simply buy it from the store? If you have ever tasted homemade vanilla extract, you wouldn't even ask that question!

Open up a bottle of store bought and compare the smell to that of homemade. Now imagine how much more rich and flavorful the taste will be when used in all your baked goods. There's no comparison!

Created out of the need to use up whatever I had on hand, I have been making muffins in all sorts of combinations for over thirty years. The idea is simple. Have one base batter recipe for all muffins, and then just add whatever stash of fruit, nuts, or ‘toss-ins” you have on hand. The combination possibilities are endless!

Making fresh mozzarella has become a staple in our house and I'm convinced after you see how easy and delicious it is, it will be in yours as well- it's so good!

Here's the best part, it's so easy too!  Just plain vinegar and little salt is all that's needed to turn that fresh (or frozen) whole milk into delicious, fresh mozzarella in about 20 minutes!
